La Catrina String Quartet’s Latin-American blend has
sparked a new generation of listeners. This quartet
(two violins, viola and cello) is one of the most
unique chamber ensembles on tour today whose
performances are infectious throughout diverse
audiences, pleasing traditional concert-goers while
novice listeners are jumping on board as fans, too.
In 2007, the quartet was the
featured showcase performer as one of the “next
generation of classical stars” at Carnegie Hall and
recently held concerts in New
York City; Washington, D.C.; Baltimore; Chicago; Los Angeles and Lo Jolla.
La Catrina String Quartet has also received many
awards, including the Bascum Little Fund Grant,
North Carolina Arts Council cARTwheels 2009 and 2010
touring program, and Western Michigan University’s
All University Research and Creative Scholar Award.
Praised by Yo Yo Ma as “wonderful ambassadors for
music,” La Catrina String Quartet brings classical
sounds to life with their saucy Mexican flavors.
