This
underground diva is going places, and she’s not
taking the subway to get there.
Chances are you’ve
heard Alice Tan Ridley’s name – and not because
she’s the mother of Oscar-nominated “Precious”
actress Gabourey Sidibe.
Known as the “New
York City Subway Idol,” she’s done more than simply
serenade the people of the city. She also sang
“Amazing Grace” in the film
Rize and
“America the Beautiful” in the film
Heights,
and in 2007 she won an Emmy for her role in the
documentary Military Families.
After nearly a
decade of performing in the subways of New York
City, covering songs such as “I Will Survive,” “My
Heart Will Go On” and “Billy Jean,” Alice decided to
audition for TV’s
America’s Got Talent. America
fell in love, the judges were blown away and Alice was dubbed “Best Unsigned Artist 2011”
by the NY Music Awards.
Alice
has been uncovered – and NYC’s secret talent is
ready to share her soul with audiences across the
country.
